{Janet + Peter} Baby Bump – Victoria, BC Photographer

Another week and another fabulous photo shoot to rave about. This time the weather gods were smiling down upon us as this shoot had been cancelled twice due to inclement weather and also an unavoidable illness. But come Saturday afternoon, the clouds parted and the sun was shining! It was gorgeous and the location couldn’t have reflected it any better.

Janet and Peter were awesome to work with. Don’t you just love clients that come with ideas and even bring multiple items of clothing to work with? Well, I do!

We hit the beach and these two were stars in front of the camera. So thank you to Janet and Peter, you were awesome to work with and I hope we can work together again!

This is what pregnancy photos should be… natural, beautiful… a representation of the love that created this child. Gorgeous photos!

{Robyn + Ole} Engaged! – Victoria BC Photographer

Yesterday I had the awesome pleasure to shoot my first engagement session. I was super nervous to get started after having to cancel the shoot the weekend previous due to inclement weather.

I had everything ready to go including a shot list that I had written up to make sure I stayed on track. I also brought my lovely assistant husband to pack my bags and help me along the way. We decided an urban shoot would fit their styles better and made our way into the heart of downtown Victoria, BC. There’s no shortage of alleyways, windows, shops, and roads to add that gritty “look” to your shot, so off we went.

These two couldn’t have been cuter and were super willing and helpful to do all the silly little things I asked them to do, including sitting down in some rather unclean looking spots to get that “shot”. I had a great time and I learned a lot.

To Robyn and Ole, you two were fabulous and thank you so much for being my willing subjects. I hope you have even more fun in your futures together as you had yesterday shooting with me. I wish you nothing but the best of luck and all the happiness you can stand. Congratulations!

{Lessons in the Everyday} – Victoria, BC Photographer

Although I haven’t yet joined any of the numerous clubs/groups/tweetups/forums that concentrate on 365 projects or 52 weeks(taking a picture everyday or every week), I have been trying my all to get out everyday and take pictures. I have willing subjects in my own family as well as the whole world at my disposal. The trick is to find the inspiration in the everyday. What do you see when you look outside your windows?

Do you see the budding trees, the sun peeking through the still spring air, the green as emerald grass? Do you see your children’s smiling faces, or maybe your friend’s children’s angelic smiles? The ordinary can become the extraordinary with just a click of the shutter. Sometimes it is hard to find something to photograph if you see the same thing everyday, but just try it. Maybe look at it from another angle, crouch lower, turn your camera at an angle, or just move your body around.

I never leave home without my giant camera bag and all my lenses, in fear that I may miss that magical moment I’ve been waiting all week for. A split second and it’s gone. So get out there, find that light and start snapping away. You’ll probably be pleasantly surprised at what you do find in the mundane, same old same old. If you see something as you are driving along, whip out that camera and snap some shots. Don’t worry, no one’s looking and you won’t have to think later, “Damn, I wish I had just stopped and taken a shot or two.”

So the lesson is: Don’t go anywhere without your camera and even if you don’t go anywhere, keep shooting. You might be surprised at what you find in your own backyard.

{Tofino Weekend} – Victoria, BC Photographer

Words can’t really describe this place called Tofino. It’s more of a feeling when you arrive there. Thick, dark as night forests leaning in one windswept direction surround expansive sandy beaches that are constantly being battered by the churning surf. The roaring crashing symphony plays 24 hours a day and is accompanied by the chilly sea air. Sea spray spreads across the beaches and drenches you in that familiar west coast embrace.

If you ever have a chance to make the journey, do not hesitate…it is worth every winding, stomach churning corner on the tiny island highway.

{Ty and Jeanine} – 2.26.2011 – Victoria, BC Photographer

Ty and Jeanine were married on Saturday, February 26th, 2011. It was my first official day as a wedding photographer (where I was the sole photographer and not just a guest taking awesome pictures) and I was nervous, excited, proud and all sorts of other touchy feely things. I couldn’t wait to get started and I couldn’t wait to see these two awesome kids get married to each other. It snowed pretty much all day, but that only made the photos that much better.

Here I share with you my favourite photos from the day. Congratulations to Ty and Jeanine, you guys are going to rock each other’s socks off for many years to come. Cheers!
